Welsh media say Leeds star Joe Rodon did something ‘really important’ to mark 50th cap with Iceland win

It was a monumental night in the career of Leeds United defender Joe Rodon on Tuesday.

Rodon was handed his 50th international cap for Wales and marked it with an impressive 4-1 win over Iceland, helping them top Nations League Group B4 and win promotion to the A League.

A lot of the build-up ahead of the match was surrounding the Leeds defender with Elland Road teammate Dan James already tipping him to reach the 100 mark.

Wales boss Craig Bellamy also heaped Rodon in plenty of praise by suggesting he always knew he would become a ‘top player’ even during his tough times at Tottenham.

Rodon should now be returning to Leeds full of confidence after this latest milestone and another successful international break.

How Welsh media rated Rodon’s 50th international cap

Rodon produced a brilliant display to help Wales earn a 0-0 draw away in Turkey on Saturday, even after suffering a nasty head injury in the first half.

Though he and his teammates at the back weren’t quite as busy as the other night, Rodon was still a key part of an all-round team performance against Iceland.

Wales Online did not rate a single member of Bellamy’s starting XI below a 7/10, and Rodon was among those to receive some decent praise.

Despite not keeping the clean sheet he would’ve wanted, Rodon is said to have made two ‘really important tackles’ to help Wales on their way to a comfortable win.

They wrote: “Joe Rodon 7 – A solid outing on his 50th appearance for Wales. Made a couple of really important tackles.”

Rodon stats in Wales victory over Iceland

Rodon is the type of player who just loves defending and even though Wales’ margin of victory was comfortable in the end, the Leeds man ensured he put himself about.
