Jack Harrison has been quoted by the Yorkshire Evening Post as saying that his agent is set to meet with Victor Orta in the “next month” to thrash out terms on a new deal at Leeds United – with his current deal due to expire in June 2024.
Harrison, 26, made a wonderful start to the season. In his first three Premier League games, the left-sided winger had a hand in four goals – even scoring once, and creating another in the 3-0 win over Chelsea. But it has dried up since.
He has failed to add to his 54 goal contributions in a Leeds shirt, since then. That is despite reports he was a target for Newcastle and Tottenham in the summer. Sky Sports reported that Leeds would only consider offers of £60million.
Jesse Marsch even confirmed that Harrison was part of the 55-man preliminary England squad to go to Qatar this winter. But of course, he failed to make the final cut and is currently in Valencia with the Leeds squad, training hard.
Following Monday’s session, Harrison spoke about his future: “I enjoy being here at the club, I love being here, I’ve been here a long time now and I’m almost part of the furniture. It’s a great place to be, I’m happy to be here.
“My agent is coming over in the next month to sort something out with Victor, so we’ll see what happens,” he added. I’m in a good place mentally and physically so just trying to build that up, getting ready for the Man City game.”
Harrison agent set to meet Orta to thrash out new Leeds deal
While Harrison’s form has dwindled over the last few Premier League matches, it is imperative Leeds keep him at the club. Two main reasons. Harrison is still only 26 and simply, a player that is still a crucial part of Marsch’s squad.
But secondly, because we need to protect our asset. Letting him run his contract down until the summer would be a mistake – clubs would try to strike a cut-price fee for him. So, handing him a new deal makes sense for all involved.
