Tottenham skipper Son Heung-min and on-loan Leeds United man Joe Rodon are set to reunite when Wales take on South Korea at The Cardiff City Stadium – and Son says Rodon is one of his best mates.

International football returns this evening and centre-back Rodon will be playing against Son – alongside some of the Spurs captain’s other teammates in the form of Ben Davies and signing Brennan Johnson.

Rodon only actually stayed at Spurs for two seasons after his move to North London in 2020. Just 24 outings for Son’s side came in those 24 months – last summer, he decided to go on loan. To Rennes.

Again, Rodon struggled to make his mark but already at Leeds – Rodon is impressing. Alongside Wales teammates of his own in Dan James and Ethan Ampadu, he looks at home in the middle of the defence.

So, tonight Rodon and Ampadu – James is absent due to an adductor injury – will team up with Son’s current teammates Davies and Johnson to take on South Korea. A friendly between two decent sides.

Asked about his relationships with Davies and Johnson, Son quickly jumped in – mentioning Rodon as one of his bets mates: “Don’t forget Joe Rodon as well, he is one of my closest friends – so, yeah.”

Clearly, Rodon is quite a likeable guy. His interview on the official Leeds United podcast was proof of that – he has a sense of humour, a bit of character about him. He will need that to stop Son this evening.

But Rodon has made a very solid start to life at Elland Road and was key in helping Leeds secure a clean sheet – the first this season – on Saturday, a draw with Sheffield Wednesday. No injuries tonight, please.
