Leeds United loanee Brenden Aaronson’s disappointing loan spell at Union Berlin went from bad to worse on Tuesday night.
Aaronson missed a huge late sitter in Union’s Champions League tie against Braga with the score at 2-2, which went onto cost his team the game as they were beaten 3-2 after a stoppage time winner.
As shown in a video (miss at 00.58 seconds) posted by @brdcrmz on Twitter, Aaronson put a free header six yards out from a Kevin Volland cross wide of the goal.
Aaronson had been introduced as a late substitute for Union in the 81st minute, with his miss coming just a matter of moments later.
Union had been 2-0 up inside the opening 40 minutes but went onto surrender their lead and leave empty handed, meaning they are on zero points after their first two group stage matches.

Ultimately, Aaronson’s miss was the difference between them leaving with three points, or nothing, as his goal would’ve put them back ahead with just a matter of minutes left to play.
In fairness to the USMNT international, he did well to ghost into the six-yard box unmarked, but once he got there, it was inexcusable not to hit the target.
Aaronson has continued his struggles from the second half of the season at Leeds into his loan spell at Union, with minutes already few and far between.
After receiving a red card in his second game for the club, Aaronson has started just one game in all competitions since, of which he was hauled off at half-time.
The German media have also already criticised his lack of physicality and he will need to show significant improvement if Leeds are going to be able to sell him next summer.
