Mateusz Klich is enjoying life in the United States after his move from Leeds United to DC United back in January to join Wayne Rooney’s side – and on Sunday, he scored his third goal with a delightful strike.
Klich, 33, left Leeds at the start of the year after being taken out of the starting line-up by Jesse Marsch for the first half of 22-23. It saw Klich miss out on a place in Poland’s National Team for the World Cup.
That hurt Klich, as did Marsch’s constant overlooking of him, and he chose to go. It saw him end a Leeds stint that lasted 195 games. He has promised in the recent past he will return to reach the magical 200.
But for now, he continues to impress over the pond. For DC as a whole, it has been a difficult season – just one league win in 10. On Sunday, a 2-2 draw. Klich scoring DC’s second equaliser in Vancouver.
In what was his 34th appearance for Rooney’s men, Christian Benteke got the first for DC before Ryan Gauld – an ex-Dundee United, Scottish playmaker – put Vancouver 2-1 up. Klich made it 2-2, below.

What a finish from Klich. Typical Klich, too. Full of finesse, full of purpose. He knew exactly what he was doing and looked as though he had all the time in the world. Now has 10 goals and assists in 34 games.
Will he come back to Leeds and play five more times? Players do join English clubs on loan with the MLS season structured differently. Leeds in the Championship might tempt him to come back, slightly more.
More chance of game time. Certainly, Leeds tried to sign a no.10 in the summer and failed to do so – with bids made for Matt O’Riley and Nadiem Amiri. Klich would certainly improve our options there.
