Victor Orta was criticised for much of his tenure as Leeds United sporting director but he did make some wonderful signings – and Bradley Dack could have been one of those back in 2018, and now the playmaker is without a club.
Joining Leeds from Middlesbrough in 2017, Orta did not really kick into gear until the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa. But in January 2018, he could have changed that. There was interest from Leeds , six months after he joined Blackburn.
The Sun (22/01/2018, page 51) reported that Leeds and Aston Villa wanted Dack, who was at the time, rated at just £4m. But he remained at Blackburn Rovers, where he has lasted six years. Dack has since suffered two ACL injuries.
It is a shame. Dack had a hand in 29 goals in his first season – scoring 18 and creating 11. His second season, 18 goals, 10 assists. Third season, 10 goals in 24 before his first ACL injury. His form has deteriorated with his injuries.

Now 29, Dack remained fit all season but could only play 33 times. He still scored seven times, creating three. So, a player no longer the player he once was before injury – but a player that knows how to do it at Championship level.
Blackburn have opted not to renew his contract and he is now a free agent. Perhaps, a solid squad player at second tier level, especially in a side that are likely to be pushing for the top six – given, he is available on a free transfer.
Should Leeds make a move? Well, if Brenden Aaronson leaves then perhaps there is scope to bring in an attacking midfielder. Leeds fans would be wary of a move for Dack given his injuries but given the platform, he could still do it.
