Leeds United’s sporting director Victor Orta has told Spanish media that he is keen on a return to his home country when asked if he couple replace Monchi at Sevilla – stating that he feels “selfish” but needs to go back “personally”.
Orta has come under fire in the last couple of seasons at Leeds. The firing of Marcelo Bielsa, despite the club’s poor form, saw him come under scrutiny. Outbursts towards fans from the technical area and questionable signings, too.
The club’s search for a replacement for Jesse Marsch – a manager which he hired – also verged on embarrassing. Manager after manager rejected Leeds, with in-work bosses unwilling to leave their current clubs to move to Leeds.
It saw Leeds waste three games of the Premier League campaign with a caretaker manager in place, in the form of Michael Skubala. Asked about leaving Leeds, Orta said he is keen to return to his home country, and “needs” it.
“Being Monchi’s successor, in any team, I don’t know if it’s something I’m prepared for, but obviously at some point I want to return to Spain. I feel very selfish. I want my son’s grandparents to spend more time with him,” Orta said.
“You get here and it’s 20 degrees. My home is Spain and I will have to return. I don’t know what, if at the club or doing other things, but in the medium term I want to return because I need it personally,” Orta told Spanish media.

Many Leeds fans will see his comments and hope that he does go. But it must be remembered that Orta has pulled off some incredible signings. Illan Meslier for £5m. Raphinha for £17m. Even Max Wober in January for £14m.
It was Orta that decided to bring in Bielsa – something he should be praised more for. But, his rants at Leeds fans from the technical box has not gone down well and neither has the pursuit of a new manager. Perhaps, it is time.
