Adrian Clarke has likened Georginio Rutter to Stan Collymore and branded the Leeds United player as a “maverick”, with Rutter continuing to shine in a Leeds shirt as the Whites push for promotion.
Rutter, 21, has had a hand in 11 goals during 18 Championship games this season. His numbers are solid even if he has missed chances against the likes of Hull and Middlesbrough. But it is his all-round play.
The club’s record signing is seen dropping in all over the pitch, even in defence to help his teammates. His ability to create chances, his quality in transition, his weight of pass; nothing short of exceptional.
Speaking after our win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, pundit Clarke told the What The EFL? podcast that Leeds man Rutter reminds him of Collymore. He described Rutter as a “maverick”, as he shines.
“With Georginio Rutter, is it just me or is there a bit of Stan Collymore? Can you see where I’m coming from? He has got a maverick nature to him,” Clarke said, when discussing the form of the Frenchman.
“He’s massive but travels with the ball quickly, clearly very skilful. I just think they [Rutter and Collymore] are very, very similar in players. I hadn’t seen him compared to Collymore previously,” Clarke added.

Rutter has been sensational for Leeds. His ability to dribble at pace with such long strides is much like ex-Liverpool and Aston Villa man Collymore. What Collymore did though, was score goals very regularly.
Something which Rutter needs to do more. Collymore got 25 in his final season at Forest before joining Liverpool, where he then scored 35 in 81 games. Another 15 came in his time with Villa, in 61 games.
So, the style of play is very similar between Rutter and Collymore – but Collymore scored goals on a ratio of pretty much, one every three goals. That is what Rutter needs to start doing more, in a Leeds shirt.
