Brenden Aaronson might have been disappointed not to start for the United States in the early hours of Wednesday, but the Leeds United ace will be feeling confident on his way back to Yorkshire.
Aaronson, 24, was recalled by the United States for the October break after Mauricio Pochettino left him out of the side in September. His four starts for Leeds between September and October saw him recalled.
However, Aaronson was unused in America’s first friendly against Ecuador, a 1-1 draw. Pochettino took his side to DSG Park at 2am on Wednesday for another friendly, this time against Australia. USA won 2-1.
The USMNT came from behind to beat Australia to win 2-1, thanks to two goals from Coventry City’s Haji Wright. Aaronson was introduced in the 64th minute, replacing Marseille’s Timo Weah on the right.

He moved centrally after initially coming on as a wing-back, and should have had an assist when he nutmegged a defender with a gorgeous pass. But Diego Luna was unable to score from close range.
US media were left impressed with Aaronson, with one report saying his performance “showed he belongs” in Pochettino’s side. Even if it isn’t starting games, he can have an impact off the bench.
American fans were left with the same opinion. Many were impressed with Aaronson’s cameo for Pochettino’s side this week and believe he’s showing what is required to make the World Cup squad.

The praise continued to flow for the £25m Leeds signing: “Perfect use of Aaronson, he was better on the ball than usual,” while another said: “Brenden Aaronson was better than Diego Luna and Timo Weah.”
“Aaronson looking pretty dangerous” was the opinion of another USMNT fan, while others said Aaronson produced a “positive cameo” and he was “playing well”. All positive signs for the hard-working attacker.

Recently, Daniel Farke said Aaronson is in the side for his hard-working style, his attitude and his graft. Indeed, Aaronson tops the list of Leeds’ outfield players when it comes to duels won per minute.
But he lacks what Noah Okafor, Dan James, and Willy Gnonto provide in attack. A bit of magic. Farke says if Aaronson had both, he’d be playing for Barcelona. Aaronson admits he needs more goals and assists.
It comes after just 11 involvements in 46 Championship appearances last season, 44 of which he started last season. If Aaronson can get himself a goal or an assist, Leeds fans might finally become convinced.
