Leeds United enjoyed a near-perfect weekend as Ipswich Town were beaten 2-1 by Cardiff City on Saturday, after Leeds had beaten Sheffield Wednesday – and Kieran McKenna reacted afterwards.
The weekend for off to an ideal start for Leeds. After riding Wednesday’s pressure for the first half, it was Patrick Bamford that popped up at the back post to tap home Junior Firpo‘s wonderful low cross.
An assist Daniel Farke described as “perfect”. In the second half, a brilliant goal involving Bamford, Georginio Rutter and Willy Gnonto ended in the Italian scoring. A 2-0 win, 12 wins in 13 league games.
The pressure was piled back on Ipswich, who were next in action just after midday on Saturday. They went to Wales to take on Cardiff, and it looked as if Kieffer Moore had sent Ipswich towards a victory.
But there was late drama. A 95th-minute equaliser, was followed by Cardiff scoring in the 100th minute to win the game. With nine games to play, Leeds sit in second – and McKenna gave his verdict on it.
“Who knows? We’re not thinking about a promotion race, to be honest. Just thinking about ourselves, our journey, the next game, do as well as we can. Bits of the performance we could have improved.
“It was a strong second half. Whether we won today, drew today or unfortunately lost today, it wouldn’t change anything that we focus on or work on next week,” McKenna was quoted as saying by YEP.

What a weekend it was for Leeds. Not only did Ipswich lose, but Leicester dropped points – a 2-2 draw away at Hull, which to be fair, is still a pretty decent result given how well Hull have played this season.
The Foxes are now just three points ahead of Leeds, with just nine league games left. The momentum, of the top-four clubs, is right with Leeds at the moment. Plenty of twists and turns left this season.
