Plymouth Argyle manager Ian Foster has shared his assessment after his side’s 2-0 defeat to Leeds United’s.
The Whites came away from Home Park victorious for the second time in less than two weeks after goals in either half from Wilfried Gnonto and Georginio Rutter.
This was the first time Plymouth have been beaten on home soil in nine games, with Leeds also managing to extend their winning run in the Championship to eight matches since the turn of the New Year.
In truth, though, Leeds had to come through some really tough spells in the game to leave Devon with all three points, with Foster having been pleased with the performance of his side.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, though, he acknowledged that Leeds are the best side in the division for creating opportunities on the counter-attack.
Foster says Leeds best team in transition
He said: “I’m proud of the players to stick to the game plan. Overall I’m pleased with the performance. We’ve limited an unbelievable team to just two shots on target. Leeds are the most devastating team behind us in transition from defence to attack.”
Foster is not the first manager in this league to have said something along these lines, with both Enzo Maresca and Kieran McKenna having said similar earlier in the season.
And Rutter’s goal today was a pretty clear example of Leeds’ pace on the counter, with just a couple of passes needed for the Whites to be all but in on goal.
Leeds’ attacking players like Crysencio Summerville and Rutter – who have been a joy to watch this season – were far from their best, yet the latter still came away with a goal and assist.
That is what Leeds have over so many teams in this division and it is why they are flying so high in the table at the moment.
