Journalist Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that Tyler Adams is planning to stay at Leeds United for the rest of the season, at least, as his stock continues to rise at the World Cup.
Adams has been one of the stars of the tournament in Qatar. He has been outstanding at the heart of the USMNT midfield, captaining the side to the knockout stages of the competition.
And he has won plaudits off the pitch. Of course, many within the football world was blown away by his response to a journalist ahead of their final group game against Iran.
Tyler Adams to stay at Leeds
Leeds fans have not been surprised by Adams’ form. He went into the tournament having arguably been our player of the season so far. He has done an amazing job of stepping into the void Kalvin Phillips left in the summer.
World Cups can often launch a player rapidly. And with the January transfer window just around the corner, some may be concerned about the prospect of losing the 23-year-old.
Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport claimed that Inter Milan want Adams, particularly after his displays at the World Cup. And they are unlikely to be his only admirer.
But Jones does not expect Adams to push for a move away anytime soon.
“From what I’m told, he’s going to see out the season and probably see what lands after that point,” he told Give Me Sport.
“But it won’t surprise me at all to see him being linked with some big moves at the end of the season.”
Midfielder should be in no rush to move on
It would be a worrying statement if Leeds allowed Adams to leave in January anyway. Certainly, you would like to think that the board would have no interest in a sale unless there was truly outrageous money on the table.
Adams is under contract for several years yet. So Leeds find themselves in a very strong position to hold onto him beyond the next summer window.
And Adams may not have an issue with Leeds keeping him anyway. He has a brilliant relationship with Jesse Marsch. Marsch called him ‘special’ this week. And he will be aware that he still has a lot to learn.
Ideally, Adams will continue to grow. And hopefully, he will stay at Leeds for a number of years yet.
