Two Championship clubs want Tottenham coach Ryan Mason – could Leeds be one?

The Evening Standard claim Tottenham coach Ryan Mason is attracting interest from at least two Championship clubs ahead of the new season – and could one of those be Leeds United, as the search for a manager continues?

Mason, 31, has ended his second spell as the Tottenham’s interim manager – finishing the season with a 4-1 win at Elland Road against Leeds. Harry Kane was on fire, scoring twice. Pedro Porro and Lucas Moura also scored goals.

But with the appointment of Ange Postecoglou from Celtic, Mason is in limbo. The report from the Standard says Spurs want to keep Mason on Postecoglou’s coaching staff. But after two interim spells, he’s not made a decision.

Indeed, the report says Spurs are to offer him a new contract – but at least two Championship sides are keen, while two European clubs could also make their move. Could one of those interested parties come in the form of Leeds?

First off, of the 24 Championship clubs, only six might find themselves looking for a new manager. Southampton are reportedly looking to raid Swansea for Russell Martin. So, that is two of the six. Leicester may replace Dean Smith.

Tony Mowbray’s future at Sunderland is under the microscope, with the gaffer yet to make a decision after missing out on a second successive promotion via the play-offs. Leeds of course are without a manager, at the moment.

Carlos Corberan could be the manager Leeds turn to, meaning West Brom might have to find a new gaffer. All other 18 clubs are likely to retain the managers they currently have in the dugout. So, could Leeds be interested in Mason?

It would be a surprise. Mason is of course, incredibly inexperienced and while trusted enough by Daniel Levy to take the reigns of Spurs on a temporary basis – he is yet to properly prove himself. But he is a young, exciting manager.

A well-liked figure in the game, forced to retire early due to a head injury while playing for Hull City. Mason is keen on playing an exciting, attacking brand of football – as seen in our 4-1 loss to Spurs. Perhaps, he could be targeted.
