Weston McKennie has told Sky Sports that Leeds United fans can expect constant energy from him in the middle of the park and even some “trash talk” – after completing a move to Elland Road on a loan deal from Serie A side Juventus.
McKennie, 24, has clocked up 96 appearances for Juventus over the past two and a half years. That is after joining the club on loan from Schalke in 2020, before it was made permanent in 2021. The USA ace has now joined Leeds on loan.
It is a deal that is expected to cost a small fee initially, before the potential of a £35m move in the summer. McKennie is an exciting addition that has delighted the fan base – not least because he is familiar with a couple of Leeds players.
The midfielder was asked what Leeds fans can expect from him when he takes to the pitch. He says that Leeds fans can expect plenty of energy, tackles and non-stop running for 90 minutes. He also hinted he is willing to dish out trash talk.

“Leeds fans can expect hard work, non-stop, 90 minutes. Back and forth, tackles, trash talk probably. Everything – funny moments, serious moments. It’s a dream come true, honestly,” McKennie said, when speaking to Sky’s Tim Thornton.

From what McKennie says, he sounds like he will be able to offer very similar qualities to that of his USA teammate, Tyler Adams. If he has any kind of impact like Adams has had at Leeds, then the Whites have signed a serious player.
Expensive at a potential £35million. But, a potential bargain, too. He will be playing alongside a player he has known for years and that is only going to get the best out of him. More box to box than Adams, able to score and create.
He has had a hand in 17 goals in 96 games for Juve. The odd goal, or odd assist will only help Leeds. Leeds have got themselves a real coup. It has every chance of taking Leeds away from the relegation zone, this season.
