Tony Dorigo has claimed in his Yorkshire Evening Post column that Leeds United talent Willy Gnonto might be the subject of interest from Serie A champions Napoli this summer – with Premier League clubs likely to raid Gil Azzurri.

Gnonto, 19, is well-regarded in Italy and highly-rated largely because of his involvement with the Italy National Team under Roberto Mancini. Mancini handed him his Italy debut while he was playing in Switzerland he has since starred.

Winning 10 caps, Gnonto will be hoping to deliver some silverware for Italy this summer – when he faces Rodrigo’s Spain in the semi-final of the UEFA Nations League. They could face either the Netherlands or Croatia in the final.

Gnonto has been linked with a number of Serie A clubs, and indeed those in the top tier in the Premier League. Ex-Leeds man Dorigo believes Italian champions Napoli could come calling and sign Gnonto – with players likely to go.

“There will be interest in him back home in Serie A for sure. It was always strange that they let him go in the first place, not only Inter Milan who he left for Zurich, but other clubs who were aware of him,” Dorigo claimed.

“Clearly Napoli have a number of extremely talented players who will be sought after by the Premier League outfits and other big European clubs, so they will then look to reinvest accordingly,” the former Leeds man continued.

Dorigo certainly knows his stuff when it comes to talking about Italian football, working as a co-commentator for BT Sport on Italy’s top tier. Napoli will likely lose two or three key players in the next couple of months, after the title.

Victor Osimhen, Stan Lobotka, Piotr Zielinski, Khvichi Kvaratskhelia and plenty more have been linked with Premier League clubs. They will need replacing as Dorigo says and why would they not try for Gnonto – given his potential.
