Tony Dorigo shares what he’s heard about Crysencio Summerville in Leeds training

Tony Dorigo has written in his column on his website that he has heard “good stories” about Crysencio Summerville in Leeds United training, praising the winger for turning his potential into proven form on the pitch this season.

The 21-year-old has been in excellent form for Leeds. It must be remembered that the pocket-sized winger has only played 32 times at senior level for the Whites – but this season, has four goals and two assists in 20 League outings.

That is despite only starting nine of those 20 games. Summerville is more than likely to start come the weekend against Arsenal, with Willy Gnonto a doubt after picking up an ankle injury while on Italy duty in the last few days.

Summerville, who has not scored since his four goals in four consecutive games, that he has heard good things about the Dutch winger – as early as last season. But he raved about the player’s technique, and his improved form.

“I like the look of Summerville this season. He has such good composure and confidence on the ball. A lot of players in tight areas don’t like to play quickly, or their composure doesn’t allow them to, but Summerville is very happy to.

“Great skill. I’ve heard lots of good stories in training. People last year were saying, ‘wow, this kid has great ability,’ and he hadn’t quite transferred that onto the pitch. But this season, we’re seeing it in the first team,” Dorigo said.

There is no doubt that when used, Summerville has had a really positive impact on the side. Because he has been at Leeds for some time now, perhaps the hype is not there like it is with Willy Gnonto. But the duo have similar stats.

Both have four goals in 20 games – Gnonto laying on one more assist than Summerville. That is despite Gnonto being much more experienced, despite younger, when it comes to first-team exposure. Summerville is still raw.

He is just getting started but clearly, Leeds have a real talent on their hands. If, being out of the public eye with Gnonto taking the acclaim is helping Summerville, then so be it. He deserves to start against Arsenal this weekend.
