Tony Dorigo says Leeds players ‘need clarity’ on ownership situation as 49ers await EFL approval

Tony Dorigo believes San Francisco 49ers Enterprises need to provide the Leeds United squad with ‘clarity’ on their future plans.

Dorigo was writing in his latest weekly column for the Yorkshire Evening Post, where he claimed the players will want to know what the 49ers are planning to ensure everybody is moving in the same direction.

49ers reached an agreement with Andrea Radrizzani almost three weeks ago for a full takeover of Leeds, but are still awaiting EFL approval.

The wait for the green light from the EFL is also delaying the announcement of a new manager, which Leeds are said to be holding back until the takeover officially goes ahead.

Leeds return for pre-season training on July 2 and will want both to be in place to ensure a smooth start to the summer, avoiding any uncertainty for the players.

Dorigo urges 49ers to provide Leeds squad with clarity

Leeds’ only transfer action so far has been the permanent exits of fringe players Tyler Roberts and Alfie McCalmont.

Following relegation to the Championship, plenty are expected to follow but Dorigo believes the 49ers can get some players in the squad on board for a promotion push if they can sell them a promising vision for the club.

He said: “As regards the 49ers, players will want to hear from them as soon as possible. What are their plans going forward, what is their vision and who do they want? I think any any time that such a big change happens, players need clarity.

“Then you’ll find you know which players want to jump on board, which ones don’t, which ones will only go so far because if you’re talking about a club that wants to get back into the Premier League, then when you get to the Premier League, there will be one or two players who will have to be changed on the natural progression of things.

“Once we’re back in the top flight, are we going to push for midtable and beyond that, Europe?”

While there is undoubtedly plenty of work going on behind-the-scenes, Leeds cannot afford to go on much longer with this radio silence.

The EFL simply must speed up their approval process so Leeds can get on with their summer plans, and as such, provide the players with the clarity which Dorigo has alluded to.
