Tony Dorigo has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Jack Harrison looks to be back to his best as he admitted that he was delighted to see him stay at Leeds United beyond the January transfer window.
Harrison’s future was one of the main talking points for Leeds fans heading into the final hours of the window. Reports from the Daily Mail suggested that Leicester City had made a £20 million bid for the 26-year-old. And, as the deadline loomed, it was claimed that the Foxes were not giving up on a deal.
Little did we know just how close the move came. The Athletic subsequently suggested on Wednesday that Harrison started his Leicester medical at their training ground in case the two clubs agreed a fee.
Dorigo delighted by Harrison staying
Thankfully for those of us wanting Harrison to stay, nothing was agreed. And the winger remains a Leeds player.
Dorigo is certainly in the camp of those who did not want the former Manchester City man to leave. The LUTV commentator insisted that Harrison looks ready to take on a big role in the remaining months of the season.
“It’s a balancing act, balancing the books and also balancing the players within the squad. Jack is a wonderfully talented player who goes through ups and downs I suppose in his form. But what I’ve seen in January has been really good,” he told the Yorkshire Evening Post.
“He has been excellent and back towards his best. There is no doubt that previous to that he has struggled at times and been left out once or twice. But what I have seen recently has been really good and you know that he will always give 100. He’s a real asset, absolutely.”
Winger has huge role to play this season
Harrison does face a battle to get into the Leeds side. The likes of Crysencio Summerville and Willy Gnonto have taken their opportunities with both hands this season. Meanwhile, Luis Sinisterra has shown glimpses of what he is capable of.
The arrival of Weston McKennie may perhaps lead to Jesse Marsch playing three in midfield more often. Meanwhile, Georginio Rutter is another rival in attack.
But Harrison’s quality is unquestionable. If he is on form, Leeds have a fantastic chance of getting themselves out of trouble.
Hopefully, Leicester are the ones reflecting on what might have been come the end of the season.
