Three out-on-loan Leeds United players all score goals, £5m man nets his first professional goal

Leeds United only have five senior players out on loan currently so it is remarkable that on Saturday, three of them scored for their loan clubs – and surprisingly, one of them was not Sam Greenwood.

Sam Greenwood has been in excellent form for Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston this season. Like Brenden Aaronson, the on-loan Leeds ace has six goals and two assists this season but fell to a 2-1 loss at QPR.

However, three others were among the goals. Rasmus Kristensen scored his second goal of the season for Eintracht Frankfurt and while that was a big plus, the Danish star suffered defeat alongside Robin Koch.

In a game that involved many names that Leeds fans will recognise, 2023 summer target Nadiem Amiri was shown a straight red card in the first half. Yet, Amiri’s Mainz went on to win 3-1 against Frankfurt.

Another Leeds loanee scores with his first touch, off the bench

Leyton Orient arguably produced their best win of the season on Saturday, beating Barnsley away from home 4-0. But for Sonny Perkins, it may have been a source of frustration with the forward on the bench.

The former West Ham star is back at his boyhood club this season, and has had a hand in seven goals in 24 appearances. But on Saturday, he was on the bench after starting the previous five league matches.

It might have had something to do with Orient facing a difficult test away from home at Barnsley. Perkins came on for the last few minutes, and showing why he deserved to start, scored with his first touch.

Darko Gyabi scores first professional goal against Middlesbrough

An enthralling game at Home Park saw Wayne Rooney’s side unlucky not to produce an upset and beat play-off contenders Middlesbrough. A 3-3 result, that also saw former Leeds man Jonny Howson score.

After Howson’s equaliser to make it 1-1, £5m Leeds man Gyabi looked like he had secured a 2-1 win for Plymouth until the final 15 minutes. His close-range tap-in was his first professional goal at club level.

However, a flurry of goals in the last 15 saw the game finish 3-3 with Boro’s wantaway striker Emmanuel Latte Lath coming off the bench to score an equaliser for Michael Carrick’s side on 84 minutes.
