Three Leeds United players that Michael Skubala could look to sign after leaving Elland Road

Michael Skubala has left Leeds United to take over as head coach at League One side Lincoln City with the club finally replacing Mark Kennedy – and here are three Leeds players he could target.

Lincoln sacked Kennedy in the middle of October after one win in six League One games. Lincoln have since picked up three wins and two draws in seven games in league and cup. Now, Skubala has come in.

Skubala, of course, took charge of Leeds last season for three games – a double header against rivals Manchester United, and the 1-0 loss to Everton. Skubala has since been the club’s Under-21 side.

Now at Lincoln – who sit in a solid 11th position in the third tier of English football – Skubala will have the chance to strengthen his side in January. Here are three Leeds players who need a loan, he could target.

Three Leeds players Michael Skubala should consider at Lincoln

Lew Bate

Bate returned to Leeds in the summer after impressing on loan in League One at Oxford United. But the midfielder has failed to break into the senior side – remaining with the 21’s. He needs a loan in January.

His previous form and the fact he is clearly willing to go out on loan in League One should convince him to join Skubala and Lincoln – if, Skubala made a move. Bought for £1.5m, is a Championship-level talent.

Sean McGurk

McGurk, 20, is on fire for the 21’s this term. He has had a hand in 12 goals this season, scoring eight and laying on four assists in all competitions – in 13 games. McGurk has played up top, as a 10 and out wide.

He is clearly showing that he is now too good for the 21’s and needs senior football. A first loan, of his career. A move to League One and with a manager he knows well would benefit McGurk, and Lincoln.

Diogo Monteiro

Monteiro joined Leeds in January having already broken into Swiss side Servette’s starting XI. Since then, he has not had a sniff in the first team. A regular for the 21’s, but his development is stuttering.

He needs senior game time. Leeds have numerous options at centre-back in the senior side, so much so that Charlie Cresswell cannot get into the side. Monteiro should consider Lincoln if Skubala is keen.
