Leeds United ended the summer window having brought in nine new signings – as Jaidon Anthony and Luis Sinisterra swapped clubs in the final few moments. But the club did not bring in a natural left-back.
Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Sam Byram, Ethan Ampadu, Ilia Gruev, Glen Kamara, Joel Piroe and Anthony represents a decent window – in the end. But left-back remains a problem area for Leeds.
Byram has started well there, though right-footed. He is also injured, as is Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas. Jamie Shackleton played there on Saturday. Here are three free agent left-backs we should consider.
Three free agent left-backs Leeds can consider:
Marvin Plattenhardt (Last club: Hertha Berlin)
Plattenhardt would be a superb addition. The 31-year-old set-piece specialist’s nine-year spell at Hertha Berlin came to an end in the summer – in which he played a massive 239 games. Eight goals, 36 assists.
He captained Hertha last term, putting injuries behind him to play 31 of 34 Bundesliga games. A seven-time Germany international, Plattenhardt is young enough to make a difference. Two-year deal, perfect.
Yairo Moreno (Last club: Club Leon)

According to TransferMarkt, Moreno is top of the list in terms of value for free agent left-backs. He is without a club after leaving Mexican side Leon – where he played 122 times, having a hand in 24 goals.
That included a couple of loans, but also, saw him win 16 caps for Colombia. Quick, strong, and equally good in going forward – as he is in defence. Solid signing, if Leeds can convince him to move to Europe.
Konstantinos Stafylidis (Last club: Bochum)

A very experienced player, 29-year-old Stafylidis is looking for a new club – after more than 200 games with Bochum, Augsburg, PAOK, Fulham, Stoke, Hoffenheim and Leverkusen. He has 32 caps for Greece.
Two key reasons why Leeds should get him. He can play anywhere in defence, or holding midfield. Ideal, to have as cover on the bench. Also, he has Championship experience with Fulham – playing 38 times.
