Towards the end of November 2013, Leeds United suffered a 1-0 loss to Blackburn and ahead of Saturday’s clash against Rovers – here is a look back at the starting XI that travelled to Ewood Park.
Under Brian McDermott during the 13-14 term, Leeds went to Ewood Park but came away with nothing as Tommy Spurr scored the only goal of the game. Below, is the Leeds side that suffered that 1-0 loss.
The Leeds United XI that lost to Blackburn Rovers back in 2013
GK – Paddy Kenny (Retired)
Kenny spent two years at Leeds, reuniting with Neil Warnock in 2012. He played 81 times for the Whites, his last proper spell at a club. Recently, he managed Goole for a month before resigning after a month.
RB – Lee Peltier (Rotherham)
Now 36, Peltier is still playing in the Championship. He spent two years at Leeds, playing 75 times for us. In November, he played against us for Rotherham, crunching Dan James in the box, getting away with it.
RCB – Tom Lees (Huddersfield)
The 33-year-old came through the ranks at Leeds, playing 135 times for us. He’s spent his entire career in Yorkshire, spending seven years after leaving in 2014 at Sheffield Wednesday. Now at Huddersfield.
CB – Marius Zaliukas
Zaliukas only played 15 times in the League for Leeds and then in 2020, he tragically died aged 36 from Motor Neurone’s Disease. A player that boasted Hearts and Rangers on his CV, and 29 Lithuania caps.
LCB – Jason Pearce (Retired)
Pearce played 113 times for Leeds and captained us for a period. Leaving in 2015, he moved to Wigan and then Charlton before retiring in 2022 after 175 outings for the Addicks. Now coaching at Charlton.

LB – Danny Pugh (Retired)
Pugh was at Leeds for a second spell, having initially joined us as part of a deal for Alan Smith. Over the two spells at Elland Road, Pugh played 119 times for us, scoring 10 goals. 10 different clubs on his CV.
CM – Luke Murphy (Macclesfield)
Murphy was meant to be the next best thing after joining for £1m in 2013. He lasted four years with us, but struggled to get going, playing 113 times. Now at Robbie Savage’s Macclesfield in the seventh tier.
CM – Rodolph Austin (Retired)
Austin was a cult hero during his time at Leeds. The Jamaican, who captained us, spent three years with Leeds – playing 111 times. He finished his career in Denmark with Brondby and Esbjerg, retiring in 2020.

CM – Alex Mowatt (West Brom)
The Leeds academy product played 125 times for us, having a hand in 26 goals from midfield. Since played for Barnsley, Middlesbrough and West Brom – where at 28, he’s playing under Carlos Corberan.
ST – Ross McCormack (Liversedge)
McCormack was a fan favourite but after his time at Leeds and then Fulham, his career went downhill after a move to Villa. He’s now doing punditry for BBC Radio Leeds, playing for non-league Liversedge.
ST – Luke Varney (Retired)
Varney struggled at Leeds. Just eight goals in 50. He went on to enjoy a long-winded career in the Football League, 12 different English sides. He finally retired in 2021, aged 39. Often accused of diving.
Subs: Sam Byram (Leeds), Dom Poleon (Ebbsfleet), Matt Smith (Salford).
