The 58th Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers takes place tonight – and West Ham midfielder Kalvin Phillips has again, shown his Leeds United allegiance.
It is the eighth Super Bowl that the 49ers have reached the Super Bowl final – winning their first five appearances in the star-studded clash, only to lose the last two. Those two coming in 2013 and 2020.
This year’s clash, which has been front and centre of news largely because of Taylor Swift, is a repeat of the 2020 final which saw the 49ers lose to Kansas, 31-20. The 49ers have a chance to now, put it right.
Of course, the 49ers – or The 49ers Enterprises – own Leeds after taking complete control from Andrea Radrizzani last summer. It is fair to say, most Leeds fans will be supporting the 49ers because of that.
Not just supporters, though. West Ham posted a video on their Instagram, asking the players as they arrived for training who is going to win The Super Bowl. Phillips answered the 49ers, because of Leeds.
“Going to have to go 49ers because they’re in collaboration with Leeds United. The owners of The 49ers own Leeds United, so I’m going to go with The 49ers,” Phillips said, on West Ham’s Instagram.

The 49ers are slight favourites going into the 58th Super Bowl which will be held in Las Vegas, at the Allegiant Stadium. But, Kansas are given every chance largely because they have Patrick Mahomes.
But it shows a lot that Phillips is still a Leeds fan and he is willing to talk freely about it on West Ham’s Instagram. Hopefully, the England man can start to rediscover the form that saw him shine for Leeds.
