Massimo Cellino has a message for Leeds United fans today and it is that he is proud to be a fan of the Championship club, after his ill-fated spell as the owner of the Whites between 2014 and 2017.
Cellino, who now is currently the owner of Brescia and has since controlled Cagliari since his Leeds exit, controlled Leeds for three years. In that time, we had seven different managerial spells. Trigger happy.
His tenure saw an incredible turnover of players – with Liam Cooper the only survivor from the first summer of which Cellino was in control. Failed owner’s tests, issues with player agents, and much more.
He finally left in the summer of 2017, selling up to Andrea Radrizzani after relinquishing a 50% stake in January of that year. The Italian is not well-liked among fans, given the state of the club under him.
But, in an interview with The Mail today – which is to be released later this evening – Cellino says that he is still a Leeds fan. He says that he misses Yorkshire, and said Marching on Together in a short snippet.
“I miss Yorkshire, Yorkshire tea, Yorkshire puddings,” Cellino said. Asked if he had a message for Leeds fans, Cellino responded: “MOT. That’s it. I love Leeds. I am proud to be a Leeds fan,” he continued.
