Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo says there is ‘frequent and fluid contact’ between Junior Firpo‘s representatives and La Liga clubs ahead of a possible exit for the Leeds United defender – but a move to Betis has been ruled out.
Firpo, 26, is currently out injured and working hard to return to action. The left-back will be hoping to do so before the end of the transfer window in order to convince interested clubs that he is ready to go, given an instant impact.
But as things stand, he is not played a single match in pre-season. He did drop a hint that perhaps he was back on the grass this week with a post on his Instagram story, posting a picture of his boots. But, that remains to be seen.
Indeed, it is also up in the air as to whether Daniel Farke even uses Firpo, even if he is fit. Leo Hjelde has impressed in pre-season, and Sam Byram is likely to be signed as a free agent. A move to Spain looks more and more likely.

Of course, Firpo has spent the majority of his career in Spain – starring at Betis, Marc Roca’s new side. That form saw him join Barcelona where he struggled, failing to get past Jordi Alba. He moved to Leeds in 2021, but struggled.
His form was blighted by injury, meaning a lack of momentum has seen him struggle to get going. There have been moments, ironically his best came under Javi Gracia as we edged closer to the drop. The goal against Southampton.
But for now, it seems Firpo needs to focus on getting back fit before a move can be organised. As things stand, the talks between Firpo’s agents and Spanish clubs are ongoing but nothing will happen until fit. Betis are not keen.
