Swansea manager Michael Duff has delivered a new update on the future of Joel Piroe in quotes published by Wales Online, amid reports that Leeds United are battling a number of clubs in the race to sign the Dutch goal machine.

Piroe, 23, has starred for the Swans over the last two seasons. Joining Swansea in the summer of 2021 from PSV, he has netted an impressive 44 goals in 92 games. The striker has now entered the final year of his deal at Swansea.

A recent report from Wales Online said that Piroe was set to remain at Swansea, with interested parties unwilling to meet the club’s £15m price tag – or structure a deal to their liking. Leeds, Leicester, Atalanta and others are keen.

Now, Swansea gaffer Duff has delivered an update. He said he has had conversations with the in-demand striker – and the club have not received any bids for him. Until they do, then Piroe will remain a Swansea player this summer.

“I’ve had conversations with Joel, there’s been no bids,” Duff said when asked about striker Piroe, as quoted by Wales Online. “Until there’s a bid, he’s our player. He’s been absolutely top-drawer the way he’s gone about it all.”

Leeds desperately need Piroe. The Whites could be without Patrick Bamford – due to a hamstring injury – and Georginio Rutter, who has a core injury, this weekend. It highlights the lack of options in attack, ahead of Cardiff.

It also highlights the need for more firepower. Joe Gelhardt is more of a 10, something even he has admitted – and Mateo Joseph is unproven. Whether Leeds stump up the necessary cash for Piroe remains to be seen this summer.
