Having failed to hold on to a win over Leeds United on Sunday, Cardiff City have suffered more frustration – this time, in their attempt to sign free agent Tom Davies and Leeds should look to land a double blow on the Welsh side.
Davies, 25, remains without a club after leaving Everton in the summer on a free. It comes after 179 outings at first-team level, and the 23-time England U21 star is now looking for a new club. But a move to Cardiff has fallen through.
The two parties were in talks over a move that would see Davies team up with Aaron Ramsey in the Cardiff midfield. But, BBC Sport have now reported that the Bluebirds have not been able to agree a wage, priced out of a move.
With Davies clearly open to joining a Championship side, but demanding a wage that Cardiff – who have a transfer embargo in place, preventing them from buying players – could not afford, surely that hands Leeds a real chance.

Cardiff suffer Tom Davies frustration, Leeds should land double blow
Leeds have not been linked with Davies. But a player that is still only 25, huge Premier League experience given that Everton have only been in the top tier since he came through, and that we need midfielders – Davies is perfect.
Archie Gray and Ethan Ampadu impressed as a duo on Sunday. Behind those, there are little options. Darko Gyabi is next in line. A really talented youngster, while Tyler Adams looks set for Chelsea. Jamie Shackleton and Lew Bate.
The latter duo could leave before the end of the window, on loan again. Leeds need midfielders and experience in the middle of the park. On a free, Davies offers that energy, a mix of passing, vision but also tackling and work rate.
Leeds need a midfielder, do not want to spend big due to Financial Fairplay, Davies is open to a Championship move and has plenty of Premier League experience. Still only 25. Surely, Leeds have got to be looking at signing Davies.
