Wilfried Gnonto delighted Leeds United fans on Saturday morning with a new deal confirmed by the club until June 2028, after a deflating transfer window and indeed, deadline day.
Leeds fans have had to put up with the club’s need to sell some prized assets during the summer. The exit of Archie Gray left Leeds fans heartbroken, with the Thorp Arch academy ace joining Tottenham for £40m.
Glen Kamara was a key part of Daniel Farke’s side last season but after just one season at Elland Road, he left for Ligue 1 side Rennes. Then in quick succession, Crysencio Summerville and Georginio Rutter left.
They joined Premier League sides West Ham and Brighton, with the latter really annoying fans after news emerged following a 3-0 loss to Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup at Elland Road, in their second game.

Leeds made eight signings but the majority were replacements, not enhancing the squad compared to last season. However, Leeds announced a new contract for Gnonto on Saturday after the window closed.
Strongly linked with a move away, the Italy star has put pen to paper on a new contract until 2028 at the club. He posted on Instagram (above), softening what has been slightly underwhelming transfer window.
In the comments, now-retired Leeds icon Stuart Dallas commented and he is excited for what is to come from the Leeds wonderkid. Others replied to Gnonto’s post, including Joel Piroe and Largie Ramazani.

Everton were linked once again with Gnonto during the summer after the Italian refused to play for the club last summer, having tried to force through a move to Jack Harrison’s side following Leeds’ relegation.
A return to Italy was also touted in the summer with Ethan Ampadu’s old side Spezia rivalling Genoa and Parma to sign Gnonto. But Gnonto has explained why he chose to sign a new contract at Elland Road.
“There have been many ups and downs and going into this season I feel it is important to find some consistency. I feel like the right place to do it is here so I am really happy and can’t wait to keep going.”
