MK Dons striker Max Dean has won the League Two Young Player of the Month award after a superb run of form in October – less than a year after Jesse Marsch sanctioned his exit from Leeds United.
Dean, 19, left Leeds in January. It comes after the versatile attacker failed to play once at senior level for the club, Marsch choosing he would be better off moving on, than keeping him for the Leeds first team.
But he showed plenty of promise in the 21’s side – scoring 16 in 38 games for our second string. He struggled in his first few months at MK Dons, scoring once in nine during the second half of last term.
It saw Dean struggle to get himself into the MK side at the start of the season, but he was given his chance and has grabbed it with both hands. He has seven goals in 14 games this season for MK Dons.
Four of those seven goals came in October in the league, including a brace against Barrow and goals in wins over Bradford and Swindon. The EFL confirmed he won the Young POTM award for League Two.
Max Dean wins League Two award after Leeds United exit
It is good to see Dean turning it around, starting to impress for MK Dons. He will have, understandably, felt hard done by in not breaking in at Leeds and at least being given a game or two in the senior side.
But his form for MK will certainly have scouts taking a look, especially if that form continues in the next few weeks and months. Dean has the potential to have a career at Championship, or top-tier level.
Hopefully for the youngster, this award is just the start and he continues to retain his place and score goals for MK this season. With Christmas incoming, he has the chance to quickly rattle up his goal tally.
