Dom Poleon clocked up 37 senior appearances for Leeds United before leaving the club to join Oldham Athletic almost 10 years ago in the summer of 2014 – and now, he has 30 goals this season with promotion almost secured.
Poleon, now 29, came through the Leeds academy and played most of his 37 games for Leeds in his final season. Indeed, 23 games came for the Whites during that campaign – scoring two goals in 2013-14, and four in total.
Then, the versatile attacker moved to Oldham and has since become a bit of a journeyman in the Football League. Spells followed at Wimbledon, Bradford, Crawley, Newport and Dover. He joined Ebbsfleet in February 2021.
While it is a step lower than many might have predicted Poleon to play at, in National League South, he is certainly catching the eye. Having netted 17 goals in 43 games last term – his Ebbsfleet form this season has gone up a gear.
He is pushing his side back into the National League. Scoring 30 goals in 39 League games, Poleon and Ebbsfleet sit top of National League South, 21 points clear. The top team gain automatic promotion to the National League.

Dartford sit in second on 70 points, and with eight games still to play – they can mathematically still overtake Poleon and his Ebbsfleet side. But only by three points, if Ebbsfleet fail to pick anything up from their remaining six games.
Ebbsfleet are all-but-promoted and Poleon’s goals have fired them back into the fifth tier of English football. It is unclear if he will remain with his current side in the summer, but he is certainly showing he knows where the goal is.
Poleon’s side can secure promotion with a win away at Taunton on Saturday, if Dartford lose to Dulwich Hamlet this weekend. But it is almost a formality that Poleon and his incredible rate of goals will guide Ebbsfleet to promotion.
