Steven Gerrard eyed attacker at Rangers in 2020, now he could work with him at Leeds

Steven Gerrard is reportedly a target for the 49ers if they complete a takeover of Leeds from Andrea Radrizzani in the coming weeks – which would see Gerrard work with Crysencio Summerville, a player he wanted at Rangers.

Summerville, 21, joined Leeds in the summer of 2020 from Feyenoord for a bargain fee believed to be in the region of £1.3m. But RTV Rijnmond claimed that boss Gerrard wanted to sign Summerville ahead of Leeds, in August 2020.

Of course, the pocket-sized winger has gone on to become a crucial part of the senior Leeds side. Making his debut under Marcelo Bielsa for Leeds in September 2021, he has gone on to play 40 times at senior level for the Whites.

Summerville of course, could choose to leave Leeds this summer. But you would argue that out of the four senior wingers Leeds boast, Summerville is the one that is most-likely to remain. Jack Harrison will certainly be leaving.

Willy Gnonto, too. Luis Sinisterra could go, after scoring seven goals last term. Even with injury, the South American showed he is Premier League quality. Summerville has been more on the fringes, the drop could help his game time.

Now, he could be joined by a manager that clearly rates him highly. The Sun say if the 49ers complete their takeover – which is expected – then they may target Gerrard. It would see him finally work with a player he eyed in Scotland.

Summerville has the potential and the ability to shine in the Championship, having shown plenty of glimpses in the top tier. Gerrard could build the team around our no.10, in a bid to secure an instant return to the Premier League.
