Stan Collymore has claimed that Rodrigo would be the only Leeds United player he would look to sign this summer if he was at a Premier League club.

Collymore was speaking to the Sunday People (28/5; page 61) ahead of the final day of the Premier League season, which looks likely to end with Leeds being relegated to the Championship.

It has been another miserable campaign for the Whites. And it is much harder to see another great escape this time around. Leeds need a victory to stand any chance of survival. And even then, they are relying on two other results going their way.

Collymore interested to see what future holds for Rodrigo if Leeds go down

There is no margin for error anymore.

A massive rebuild is required this summer, whatever happens. And it would appear that so many of the players will be sold if Leeds are relegated.

But interestingly, Collymore believes that only one should be a target for Premier League clubs.

“I look at Leeds’ squad and the only player I’d go for if I was a Premier League side would be Rodrigo, so it will be interesting to see what happens with him,” he told the Sunday People.

“But if you look at their squad, there are a lot of Championship players in it and I don’t think they would have what it takes to go again.”

Rodrigo has had a brilliant season from a personal point of view. He has put two underwhelming campaigns behind him and stepped up when few others were able to.

So you can understand Collymore’s point of view on the Spaniard. However, there are going to be players who will surely attract Premier League offers this summer, particularly if we are relegated.

Illan Meslier, Robin Koch, Crysencio Summerville, Jack Harrison, Tyler Adams, Luis Sinisterra, Willy Gnonto and Max Wober are all very, very talented players.

That is what makes this season all the more agonising. Leeds had the makings of a squad which should have been nowhere near this position.

So many poor decisions led to this moment. Today needs to be the turning point whatever happens out on the pitch.
