Matt Doherty has tipped both Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson to impress at the next World Cup as the Tottenham star lauded the youthful USMNT midfield in Qatar – in an interview on the club’s official website.

Both Adams and Aaronson have been outstanding for Leeds United this season.

Adams has stepped into the void left by Kalvin Phillips superbly. And he has formed a brilliant partnership with Marc Roca. There is an argument that Adams has been our player of the season so far.

Meanwhile, Aaronson has arguably been our most consistent attacker. The 22-year-old seems to be a nightmare for opposition defenders to come up against. He has endless amounts of energy. And he works so hard for Jesse Marsch’s side.

Of course, they have been away with their national team in recent weeks, helping the USMNT make it out of their group at the World Cup.

Gregg Berhalter’s men have provided a glimpse of what they are capable of. And Doherty picked out the Leeds pair amongst those to really watch out for at the next tournament – when the US will be co-hosts.

“It’s another USA midfielder, this time Yunus Musah. He’s 19! He’s at Valencia,” he told Tottenham’s official website as he picked out his player to watch on Saturday.

“That US midfield – Tyler Adams at Leeds is 23, Weston McKennie at Juventus, he’s 24, Brenden Aaronson, who has also done well at Leeds, he’s 22! They could do some damage at the next World Cup.”

It is remarkable that Adams is just 23, and Aaronson is even younger. Adams’ maturity, on and off the pitch, is almost staggering. And Aaronson plays like a senior member of the Leeds squad also.

They should both be at the peak of their powers in just under four years. So it is little surprise that Doherty has earmarked them as potential stars of the next tournament.

All we can hope is that they remain at Elland Road by the time the next World Cup gets underway. It will certainly bode well for where we as a club if they remain on the books at Leeds.
