Leeds United are now beginning to look at other targets after a move for Genk attacker Joseph Paintsil stalled.
That is according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth, who says Leeds will continue to keep an eye on Paintsil’s situation this week but are now assessing potential alternatives.
It is said that Paintsil has a dispute with Genk over exit terms, with Phil Hay reporting this morning it is in regard to some bonuses owed to him by the Belgian side.
Paintsil’s preference still remains a move to Elland Road this summer, but it feels like a difficult deal to get done unless the 25-year-old can come to some sort of agreement.
If a move was to happen, Leeds are expected to pay somewhere in the region of £8.6 million with Painstil already having snubbed a move to Southampton.
Leeds looking at alternatives as Paintsil deal stalls
Particularly given that a deal for Nadiem Amiri looks all but off, this is a really frustrating situation for Leeds.
It appears as though Leeds are willing to meet Genk’s asking price for Paintsil in order to get a transfer over the line, but issues out of their control are impacting the deal.
Paintsil would represent a significant coup for Leeds if they were somehow able to get it over the line, having scored 14 goals and provided 14 assists in the league last season.
He would add major quality to an already stacked front line that put four past league leaders Ipswich Town on their own patch last weekend.
It looks as though it is a deal that will require patience from Leeds’ point of view, but at this point of the window, that is difficult.
