Caretaker boss Michael Skubala has told his post-match press conference – as per Leeds Live – that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was complimentary when speaking to him following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat, about Leeds United.

Following Wednesday night’s 2-2 draw, there was a hope that Leeds could replicate that result at Elland Road. For most part of the match on Sunday, Leeds were the better side. We did have a number of chances to find the back of the net.

Crysencio Summerville had our best two chances. Blazing a left-footed effort in the first half from eight yards, he saw a right-footed effort saved by David De Gea in the second. Leeds had plenty of half chances, but did not find a way.

Marcus Rashford is in stunning form since returning from Qatar with England, and he headed home against the run of play. With Leeds’ heads down, Alejandro Garnacho made it 2-0. A shame, given how well Leeds had played on Sunday.

Skubala was speaking in his press conference on Sunday. He was seen chatting with ten Hag, and he was asked about the details of that chat: “Personal conversation, but very complimentary about how the team was set up. Our tactics.”

Michael Skubala: Erik ten Hag complimentary when speaking about Leeds

A nice touch from ten Hag. Almost admitting that his Manchester United side had been outplayed for large parts of Sunday’s clash. But ultimately, nice words and good performances do not equate to points. Sunday a perfect example.

This next week is huge for Leeds. We need a new boss in place before a pivotal match at the end of the week, a trip to Everton. But for any man that comes in, there is hope and plenty to work with. Leeds need results, and a new manager.
