Many footballers slip through the cracks but it’s rare that one almost disappears without hardly a trace at Leeds United.
Leeds United has a renowned academy that has produced fantastic talents like Archie Gray, Lewis Cook and Kalvin Phillips – who might even return from Manchester City – in recent years.
However, the club also keeps a keen eye out for promising talent from elsewhere that they can snap up and hopefully develop even further.
Diogo Monteiro, who has just scored his first goal for Portugal U20s, is one such example after he was signed in 2023 from Swiss side Servette FC.
While the young centre-back still has hope of following Pascal Struijk – yet another good example – into Daniel Farke’s squad, there is no chance for Amari Miller.
What Amari Miller said when he signed for Leeds United
Miller was Leeds’ first signing of the 2021 summer transfer window, and the exciting winger arrived with much fanfare from Birmingham City.
The then-teenager had broken into Gary Bowyer’s side and made five senior appearances in the Championship, alerting Leeds to his potential.
Speaking to Leeds’ YouTube channel in his first interview after the transfer, Miller couldn’t hide his excitement.
He said: “The minute I heard that Leeds United were interested in me, I knew what a massive club it was and it was too big to turn down.
“It was a great feeling for me, my family, friends, everyone that knows about it, it’s just been brilliant for us.
“Me, as a winger as well, I can see Leeds United get a lot of one-v-ones, which is something that I really do back myself in.
“They play really quick, at a high tempo and they get a good press on as well, press high up the pitch and they play. It seems they train at such a high intensity and it’s unbelievable.
“Even coming from outside of Leeds, it’s always amazing to see yourself at such a club like this.
“Hopefully, I get myself a Premier League debut, get myself in this team and show everyone here at Elland Road what I can do and what I can bring.”
Sadly, things have not gone to plan for Miller in the nearly four years since.
What happened to Amari Miller at Leeds United?
Given he was just 18 when he joined, Miller originally linked up with Mark Jackson’s Under-23s side.
Though the Leeds youngsters struggled after being promoted to the Premier League 2 and eventually got relegated again, Miller enjoyed a fruitful campaign.
He scored four goals and set up another two in 24 appearances, including against the Tranmere Rovers senior side in the EFL Trophy.
However, in the following campaign, his game time reduced to a trickle, playing just 196 minutes across nine games.
His last appearance for the club came on November 7 2022 and he seemingly hasn’t played professional football of any kind since.
Graham Smyth reported in the Yorkshire Evening Post in January 2023 that there was a chance Miller could head out on loan in the EFL but a move didn’t and never has come to fruition.
Now 22, there has hardly been a trace or word of Miller in over two years; he hasn’t even posted on his public Instagram account since November 5, 2022, and we can only hope he’s doing okay.
The four-year contract Miller signed will expire in the summer. He will never play for Leeds United and show everyone what he can do.
