Finally, Tyler Adams has left Leeds United and joined Premier League side Bournemouth for a fee in the region of £23m, plus add-ons; Josko Gvardiol and Shaun Wright-Phillips have reacted on Instagram.
Adams, 24, leaves Leeds after managing just 26 matches for the club last season. A hamstring injury in training forced the USA skipper to undergo surgery – and subsequently, miss the last third of 2022-23.
The belief among many is that Adams had been fit, Leeds would have stood a much better chance of Premier League survival. But now, he has left Leeds in order to remain in the top tier. Leeds cash in.
Adams has had interest from pretty much, every Premier League club this summer. He had a medical at Chelsea but a move fell through at the last. Now, he has left the club – joining ambitious Bournemouth.
The ex-Leipzig midfielder took to Instagram after a move was completed. He has signed a five-year deal at The Vitality, and will wear the no.18 shirt. Adams underlined his delight at moving to The Cherries.
Gvardiol and Wright-Phillips react as Adams leaves Leeds
It is of course a huge loss for Leeds. But one that is not playing right now. In his place, we have signed Ethan Ampadu. We have the Welshman for a £7m fee, raking more than three times that for Adams.
No, Ampadu is not as good as Adams – he might get to that level. But, for the level we are at, Ampadu is more than good enough in that no.4 role. Adams’ sale gives us cash to spend in the final two weeks.
Leeds really need to get going in the transfer market. A left-back, a box-to-box midfielder, a no.10, a winger and a striker are all needed. Wright-Phillips and Man City’s Gvardiol responded to Adams’ move.
Gvardiol of course, is a player that almost joined Leeds during the Marcelo Bielsa era – and has just moved to Manchester City himself. He played alongside Adams at Leipzig. Wright-Phillips, at New York.
