‘Plenty’ of Championship clubs have enquired over the availability of signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien this summer, and Leeds United must be one of them.
That is according to the Athletic, who report several teams from England’s second tier, as well as a few in the Premier League, have asked about O’Brien’s situation.
O’Brien is currently on loan at MLS side DC United alongside former Leeds midfielder Mateusz Klich, a deal which officially ends on July 16.
DC do have the option to make the deal permanent, but O’Brien is said to be keen on a return to England and preferably the Premier League and even Forest.
Despite only signing for Forest last summer, O’Brien was unregistered from Forest’s 25-man squad in January after another busy transfer window, leaving his future up in the air.
Leeds should make move for O’Brien
Leeds are in desperate need of some midfield additions this summer with Weston McKennie having already left and Marc Roca set to follow.
Adam Forshaw’s future still remains uncertain and Tyler Adams is also attracting ample interest elsewhere, despite Leeds’ desire to keep him.
That leaves Leeds needing at least two new midfielders, and O’Brien would be the perfect addition for a side looking to build a squad capable of promotion.
The 24-year-old is good in possession, is capable of carrying the ball and is also tenacious off it. There aren’t many better at this level than him.
Leeds may face Premier League competition for his signature but are going to have funds to spend this summer, and it is unlikely O’Brien would command in excess of £10 million.
If a deal is there to be done, he is a no brainer of a signing.
