Reports from Italy claim Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams is a target for AC Milan this summer and if the Whites are relegated, he could go for less than £15m – and if such a deal happens, it would be Victor Orta’s worst deal yet.

Adams, 24, was bought for £15m – as per Pianeta Milan – last summer. A deal that has proved to be a bargain, given USA skipper Adams has been a rare shining light in another woeful Leeds season. Adams has sparkled for Leeds.

His absence has proved costly. Leeds have conceded 36 goals in his 24 League games, but conceded a huge 26 goals – in the eight games without him. That in itself shows just how important Adams is to the Leeds defence.

Not only has Adams impressed for Leeds. In Qatar, he was his country’s best player in what was a decent World Cup campaign, in the winter. Pianeta Milan say Leeds could sell for less than the £15m it took to buy him, if we go down.

If Leeds sell Adams for less than £15m it would be Orta’s worst deal yet

Of course, there are two caveats to this. Adams is likely to stay if Leeds remain in the Premier League – but will certainly leave if we are relegated to the Championship. Secondly, his Leeds deal ends in the summer of 2027.

The ball is in the court of Leeds when it comes to Adams’ future. Of course, there might be a specific clause in his Leeds contract – in the eventuality of relegation, which remains unclear. But, selling for less than £15m is a mistake.

Adams has become his country’s captain, proven himself in the World Cup and starred in the Premier League. Even if Leeds do end up being relegated, Leeds should be requesting a fee double what they paid for the midfielder.

He has been excellent for Leeds, superb for his country and is his nation’s captain. Selling him for less than £15m would not only be a waste of potential incoming cash, but Orta’s worst deal as Leeds sporting director yet.
