Leeds United have posted their latest training video ahead of Saturday’s clash ahead of Newcastle United at Elland Road – and youngster Connor Ferguson is seen walking alongside Patrick Bamford ahead of the session on LUTV.

Ferguson, 19, has enjoyed a solid 2022-23 campaign at Leeds this season. The red-headed left-back has broken into the Under-21 side in recent months, playing all eight of his second-string outings for the club this season.

Indeed, Ferguson came off the bench recently in the 2-1 play-off win over Aston Villa at Elland Road – in front of Sam Allardyce. The Whites are obviously somewhat lacking in options on the left side of the defence right now.

Junior Firpo is the only recognised option in that area. Max Wober, Pascal Struijk and Jack Harrison have even been used there this season. It might be that Allardyce wants two recognised left-backs in training, prior to Newcastle.

Ferguson is seen in the training video from 42 seconds in, accompanying Bamford on the short walk from Thorp Arch to the training pitches. It is of course, not the first time that Ferguson has been included in senior training.

While there is little chance that Ferguson makes the matchday squad – with the only young players likely to be a part of the Leeds squad Archie Gray, Sam Greenwood and others – it is at least a good sign for the young left-back.

Ferguson is certainly a talent. If he makes it at Leeds is another question, but the young defender certainly has a clear pathway into the side given the lack of options on the left. A solid season with the 21’s, and who knows.

As for Saturday, Firpo is more than likely to start having put a decent shift in on the left side of the defence against Manchester City. With Robin Koch fit, there is also a chance that Max Wober gets pushed to left-back, but unlikely.
