Ross McCormack issues verdict on Georginio Rutter as Leeds thrash Watford

Ross McCormack has lauded Georginio Rutter after his stunning performance in Leeds United’s emphatic victory over Watford on Saturday, insisting that he looked like a different player in the second-half.

McCormack was speaking on BBC Radio Leeds (broadcast on 23/9; 17:10) after the Whites produced an outstanding display to stun the Hornets at Elland Road.

Georginio Rutter may not have got on the scoresheet, but he continues to silence his doubters. The Frenchman produced a masterclass in skill for Daniel Farke’s men.

Rutter has made a really bright start to the season. His two goals were superb. And he is justifying his selection as a number nine ahead of Joel Piroe.

He still needs to prove to be more lethal in front of goal. But Ross McCormack suggested that Rutter really impressed him, particularly with how he went through the gears after the break.

“It was more the second-half. First-half, he had the chance and should probably have scored. So he might have been a little bit frustrated at half-time,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.

“But coming in the second-half, like you said, it was like a different player, just his touches, his lay-offs, his awareness, even his strength. Yeah, he just looked great.”

Clearly, Rutter is really enjoying his football right now. And it is excellent to see after such a challenging start to life for the youngster in England.

There was so little speculation surrounding him in the summer. That, from the outside, hints that he was happy to stay put and prove himself with Leeds.

The goal at Ipswich certainly has the potential to be a turning point. That was the moment which highlighted why Leeds broke their transfer record to bring him to the club.

Of course, the timing of the deal still made little sense. But now we have Rutter, we are clearly going to enjoy watching the 21-year-old grow and develop.

And it is great to see that Leeds have so many threats across the forward line. Rutter stole the show in many ways without scoring in a 3-0 win.

That is quite something, and will send out quite the statement to their Championship rivals.
