Fabrizio Romano says Leeds United are “fighting” to keep Cody Drameh at Elland Road after interest from clubs such as Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Borussia Dortmund – with Bournemouth joining the race to land the defender.

Drameh, 21, has been strongly linked with the exit door. Leeds brought in Rasmus Kristensen in the summer, instead of giving Drameh a chance. That is despite Drameh winning the Cardiff Player of the Season last term, while on loan there.

It has left Drameh as the club’s third-choice right-back. Unable to play in different positions, it looks unlikely he will break into the side. But in the summer, Luke Ayling’s deal is due to expire. Jesse Marsch has been impressed by him.

In Thursday’s press conference, Marsch said Drameh has been “fantastic”. But the fact remains, Drameh is being linked with the exit door. TeamTalk reported recently that Newcastle, West Ham, Palace and other clubs want the defender.

Romano has taken to Twitter to deliver an update on Drameh. He says Leeds are ‘fighting’ to keep the defender, and Marsch is only willing to let him go out on loan – with no option. Romano also says Bournemouth want to sign him.

Romano: Leeds fighting to keep Drameh with Bournemouth joining race

What is Drameh’s best play? Joining a club like those interested in his services, staying at Leeds – or going out on loan? Well, a move to another Premier League is hardly going to improve his chances of senior game time.

Bournemouth might, but the chances are he would be second-choice to Adam Smith. Newcastle, West Ham, Palace, again, not first choice. Dortmund would be exciting and it has proved profitable for a number of English talents.

But, again, not immediate first-choice senior football. The only way he is going to earn that is by leaving Leeds on loan to a Championship club. If Leeds are going to sanction a loan, it will be without an option. It is Drameh’s best move.
