Leeds United confirmed that Rodrigo had sustained an ankle injury on Thursday and the Spain star has now taken to Instagram – confirming he has had surgery to correct the issue with a post on Instagram, with an upbeat message.

Rodrigo, 31, has been on fire for Leeds this season. He has scored 12 goals, easily our top scorer. Despite the signing of Georgie Rutter, he was expected to lead the line for the Whites for the remainder of the season. But now, he is out.

Indeed, the ex-Valencia and Benfica man has been ruled out for the next two months. The next time we will see the striker is probably at the start of April. We have a trip to The Emirates on April 1, and host Crystal Palace on April 8.

Following confirmation from the club that he had sustained an injury, keeping him out for two months – Rodrigo then took to Instagram himself. He posted a picture from his hospital bed, that it is “another challenge” but he is “positive”.

It is a massive blow. Now, Leeds could be in a much worse position if the club did not decide to splash a £35million fee on Rutter – or Patrick Bamford was still injured. The latter has scored three goals since his return to action from injury.

But, losing Rodrigo is a blow. A leader in the dressing room, and an injury that could have been easily avoided. He only came on to the pitch for the last few minutes against Accrington Stanley. But, Bamford and Rutter must now step up.

Joe Gelhardt has left on loan to join Sunderland and now, it sees Mateo Joseph go from fifth-choice striker to third. Sonny Perkins, too. But the latter is more of a winger. A big couple of months coming up then, for Rodrigo-less Leeds.
