Leeds United playmaker Rodrigo has been linked with the Elland Road exit door of late, as reports emerged from his home country suggesting that he was unhappy in Yorkshire and had failed to settle. But the player himself has taken to Instagram to inform supporters that the reports are false, and that he is more than happy playing under manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Rodrigo, 30, was a club-record signing from Valencia last summer as Leeds took advantage of the Spanish side’s lack of funds. The Brazil-born Spain international has since endured a tricky first season at Leeds – suffering from numerous injuries and a bout of Covid-19. A lack of momentum, and adapting to a new position, has seen him struggle to find his best form.
He was left of out Spain’s squad for the most-recent international break and he is now in danger of failing to make their Euro 2021 squad for the summer. Perhaps why, then, Spanish outlet Fichajes chose to speculate over Rodrigo’s future – suggesting he is not happy at Leeds and wants to return to Spain. But the playmaker has now responded, stating the claims are wrong.
It is a big boost for Leeds. Clearly, Rodrigo has not hit the consistent heights many expected of him when he first joined the club – but he has certainly shown in glimpses what he is capable of. His performance in the 2-1 win over Newcastle, goals against the likes of West Brom and Manchester City shows he is clearly of the quality that can cost £27million.
Both Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha reacted to Rodrigo’s update with some emojis, both seemingly delighted that the attacker has decided to remain at Elland Road despite reports that suggested otherwise.
