Joel Robles has taken to Instagram the goalkeeper completed a move to Robbie Fowler’s second-tier Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah, after confirming his Leeds United exit this week – prompting reaction from Rodrigo and Marc Roca.

Robles, 33, posted on social media on Monday to confirm he would not be signing a new deal at Leeds. It is after the club said on the retained list, that Robles had not been offered a contract – but was invited back for pre-season.

The Spanish goalkeeper then, leaves Leeds after just 12 months at Elland Road and managing five outings. He was in goal for the last four Premier League games. But he has now jetted off to Saudi Arabia, as many others are doing.

But, it is not as you might have imagined. Robles is off to play in Saudi’s second division. After an 11th placed finish out of 14, Al-Qadsiah are throwing money at the squad ahead of a promotion push. Robles posted on Instagram.

Ex-Leeds striker Fowler has been installed as manager of the Saudi Arabian side, and he has made some notable signings already. Max Power joins after north of 500 games in the Football League. Senegal’s Mbaye Diagne, also.

It is a bit of a surprising move. Robles is clearly not old in goalkeeping terms, at 33. But the money on offer is likely to be good and Leeds have decided not to hand him a new deal – with a Leeds offer on the table for Adam Forshaw.

Al-Qadsiah have made some solid signings in the form of Power, Diagne and now Robles as well as Fowler as boss. Promotion is on the cards then – and Rodrigo, who has moved to Qatar and Roca, to Betis, have reacted to his post.
