Roca says 'Incredible' £100k-a-week Leeds man is a 'leader', hopes he goes to Qatar

Marc Roca has told Marca’s Fish & Twitch channel that he hopes “incredible” Leeds United striker Rodrigo goes to the World Cup in Qatar, after scoring six Premier League goals this season. Rodrigo has two goals in his last two games.

Rodrigo, 31, has started when fit for the Whites this campaign – after being added to the leadership group by Jesse Marsch. The American gaffer has improved our club-record signing’s confidence, after a tricky first couple of seasons.

While a couple of performances have been questionable, the Spain international’s goal record is not. He scored the first goal in our sensational 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday evening, and is likely to start against Bournemouth.

Given Rodrigo has 27 caps for Spain, the Brazil-born international could be a late inclusion in Luis Enrique’s squad. Roca heaped praise on the striker, branding the ex-Valencia star as “incredible”. He hopes he is on the plane to Qatar.

“Rodrigo is a leader in the dressing room, he is a very-important player. He took me in as an older brother from the first moment. The truth is, we get along super well. He is incredible, and I hope he goes to the World Cup,” Roca said.

Unfortunately for Rodrigo, despite his form for Leeds, the chances of him being included in Spain’s squad looks unlikely. Spain are likely to start with Alvaro Morata and have plenty of other options in the final third in Qatar.

However, should he nab a couple more goals before the World Cup – with Leeds still to face Bournemouth, Wolves in the Carabao Cup and then Tottenham, he has an outside chance. If he does go, he will only be back-up for Spain.

What is fair to say, that even despite a couple of struggling performances, £100k-a-week Rodrigo’s form in front of goal has been superb. Spain will certainly be in with a shout of going the whole way during this winter’s World Cup.
