Robert Snodgrass has told TalkSPORT on Friday morning that Neil Warnock made him captain on his first day as Leeds United manager – and did an 11v11 game, of players he did like against those he didn’t.
Snodgrass, now 36, played for Leeds 193 times during a four-year period at the club in which he scored 41 goals. He was a crucial part of Simon Grayson’s side that got promotion back to the Championship.
He only played for a few months under Warnock, who joined Leeds in February 2012 – with Snodgrass exiting that summer to join Norwich. Warnock lasted little over a year at Elland Road, boss for 63 games.
Snodgrass was on TalkSPORT on Friday and recalled Warnock’s arrival at Leeds. He says that on the first day after making him captain, he organised an 11v11 game – between players he liked, and disliked.
“It’s very hard to describe Warnock. He made me captain the very first day he came in. He done an 11v11 the first day, of all the lads he likes, and the lads he didn’t like. He’s so successful at what he does.”

Leeds are back in the Championship but there is a completely different vibe to the Leeds side that were mediocre in England’s second tier, under Warnock. An attacking side, looking to push for promotion.
Friday night is our biggest test of the season. A trip to Leicester, who are more than expected to go up via the automatic promotion places come the end of the season. Having a prime Snodgrass would help.
