Rob Price has told the Leeds United official podcast that Stuart Dallas went under the knife for a huge seven and a half hours to correct the issue that saw Jack Grealish break his femur back in April 2022.

Dallas, 32, has only just returned to Leeds training – almost 18 months down the line. A return to action is edging closer, but is still some way away from materialising. A player renowned for his availability.

Leeds have remained somewhat tight-lipped on Dallas’ injury, though Daniel Farke has already been incredibly complimentary behind the scenes – describing the Northern Ireland star as “perfect”.

Now, head of medicine and performance Price gave details of Dallas’ injury and operation. He says immediately after the injury, Dallas travelled to London before undergoing a near eight-hour surgery.

“He actually knocked off the bottom of his femur. There are two balls at the bottom of the femur, he completely broke one of those off. We got a private ambulance down to London. Stu underwent surgery.

“A seven and a half hour procedure. They spent hours making sure they aligned the joint. minimum of 12 months, could be 24, probably 18. He is 16 months. He’s made the next stage of his rehab,” Price said.

If there was anything to prove that Dallas’ commitment is still as strong as it has been, this is proof of that. Fingers crossed, Dallas is now entering the latter stages of his recovery and pulls on a Leeds shirt.

Indeed, he may need to return sooner rather than later with his Leeds future – as things stand – in doubt. He is in the final year of his Leeds contract. It will be interesting to see if the club offer him a new deal.
