Pascal Struijk has been one of our best players this term as Leeds United look to gain an instant return to the Premier League – but reports on Max Wober could see him fall down the Leeds pecking order.
Struijk, 24, has been in superb form. Struijk has started all 11 Championship games and finished them this season, even captaining Leeds last time out in the 2-1 win over Bristol City. Five clean sheets so far.
Not only that, but three goals as well – two of which have come in the Carabao Cup, one each against Shrewsbury Town and Salford City. He is perhaps a bit of a surprise package, given how good he’s been.
But, his long-term future at Leeds is one that would still be considered under scrutiny. Liam Cooper is in a much more perilous position than Struijk – with the skipper’s contract due to expire in June 2024.
Wober return would be incredibly harsh on Leeds man Struijk
However, reports this week could be more detrimental to Struijk. Sky Austria say that Leeds are planning to keep Wober – if the club are promoted. A left-footed centre-back, exactly what Struijk is for Leeds.
If Wober returns, the chances are that he starts in the defence – even though, most Leeds fans would probably say at this point that they’d rather Wober does not pull on a Leeds shirt again, after his exit.
Leigh Bromby recently spoke of Struijk’s form, of BBC Radio Leeds, praising his performances as “really good”. So, it would be incredibly harsh for Struijk to help us get promoted, and impress during 23-24.
Only to get back to the Premier League and find that £10.5m signing Wober had returned and would be starting ahead of him. Perhaps, Leeds should listen to the fanbase and get rid of the Austria defender.
