Georginio Rutter was particularly wasteful on Saturday afternoon during Leeds United’s 3-2 victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday, and Joe Rodon was seen teasing him after the full-time whistle.
Rodon, 26, enjoyed one of his best games in a Leeds shirt on Saturday – with his block denying Boro of an equaliser, as Morgan Rogers looked to slide home a rebound after Sammy Silvera struck the post.
It was the kind of block that was the difference between a win and a draw. Leeds needed the Wales star to put his body on the line after missing a hatful of chances – even though, Leeds did score three goals.
Dan James’ aggression saw Leeds equalise, winning a header despite his 171cm frame. That was then matched by Crysencio Summerville, who also won a header to put us 2-1 up. Rutter won a penalty.
Joel Piroe, making it three – before Emmanuel Latte Lath got a second. But, Leeds held on. However, Rutter missed a number of chances – including a one on one effort with his weaker right, going wide.
The Yorkshire Evening Post says that after the match, the Leeds players applauded the crowd at Elland Road. Indeed, Rodon was seen teasing Rutter – which the YEP say was probably over his blatant miss.
“Rodon giving Rutter some good natured stick, presumably over his second half miss, at full-time as most of the Leeds players walked around the pitch applauding Elland Road,” the YEP said on Monday.

Rutter does not deserve much criticism for the way he has been playing this season. But, if he was not so creative, you’d have to say that his finishing needs work. It is not the first time he’s missed chances.
The one against Hull City, a game which ended 0-0 – was guilt-edged. There have been a number of them. But, the Frenchman is creating an incredible amount of chances, making up for the misses.
